From Duqm For A Sustainable World: Oq8 Debuts Immersive Experience At Osw 2025

12/05/2025
Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (OQ8), a proud sponsor of Oman Sustainability Week (OSW) 2025, has confirmed its strategic participation under the theme From Duqm for a Sustainable World. Taking place at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, OQ8’s booth will deliver a powerful blend of live storytelling, interactive displays, and sustainability innovation, all built around a structure that is 90% recyclable.

Commenting on the Company’s strategy at OSW, Abdullah Al Ajmi, Chief Operating Officer at OQ8, said: “Our role is clear: to transform refining into a platform for sustainable industrial growth. We’re proud of what we’ve built in Duqm. We see our entire operation as an engine for integration, investment, and opportunity. OSW gives us a powerful space to show that momentum.”

The OQ8 booth is structured around five strategic pillars - Health & Safety, People & Culture, Business Strategy & Growth, Environment, and Community & Supply Chain - and brought to life through a series of immersive zones and performances.

At the heart of the booth is a semi-enclosed theatre space, which will host a variety of activities including workshops and a live, immersive stage performance aptly named: “Ahmed: A Message from Tomorrow”. Through monologue, visuals, and audience dialogue, Ahmed, a time-traveller from a collapsed future, reflects on humanity’s missteps and calls on today’s generation to “Act for Tomorrow”. The story weaves in OQ8’s five sustainability pillars, reinforcing the balance needed for long-term resilience.

OQ8 will also launch its latest Sustainability Report at the booth, providing stakeholders with early access to verified environmental and social progress aligned with national and global benchmarks.

Visitors can engage with a range of booth elements designed to spark dialogue and reflect OQ8’s sustainability commitments. The Sustainability Pledge Zone invites participants to take home or contribute plants that will be cultivated in Duqm, a symbolic, participatory activity rooted in long-term environmental care. The Pillar Display Wall, printed on fabric that will later be upcycled into tote bags, showcases OQ8’s five strategic pillars in a circular, low-waste format. Meanwhile, the Coffee & Discussion Corner, built from repurposed IBC tanks and surrounded by real greenery, offers a relaxed, informal space to exchange ideas and explore departmental insights, demonstrating how reused materials can support sustainable, functional design.

“Sustainability is a daily practice,” said Saif Al Manji, Head of Value Creation at OQ8. “Everything at this booth, from the conversations to the materials, has been designed to reflect our belief that what we do today directly influences the possibilities of tomorrow. It’s how we translate our long-term strategy into visible, immediate actions, creating value for our communities, our partners, and Oman’s future.”

Saif Al Manji, will explore how next-generation refineries can scale operational performance while upholding environmental responsibility, in a dedicated OSW Talk titled “Can Oil & Gas Be Truly Sustainable?” The session will examine the sector’s shifting role in the energy transition and how OQ8 is helping redefine sustainability in complex, high-performance industrial settings.

Oman Sustainability Week will take place from 12–14 May 2025 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. Visitors are invited to explore OQ8 Booth 1410 to experience the full programme of immersive content, live storytelling, and sustainability insights.
